On March 9th, several brave souls came out to North Avenue Beach to plunge into Lake Michigan for our 5th Annual Shelter Shiver. This was our “rain date” due to the lake freezing over for our first plunge date of January 5th. When we rescheduled for March, we thought for sure the lake would be ready for us. Little did we know that we would be setting records this winter and that 92% of the Great Lakes would still be frozen.
We visited the beach several times the week of the event and had to bust out a small portion of the lake for our jumpers. We even came up with back up plans like a water balloon and squirt gun fights. We were determined and we made it happen!
The area we jumped into was only a few inches deep, but the jumpers doused themselves with water and even rolled around to get their bodies fully covered in ice water. It was truly a one-of-a-kind Shelter Shiver experience full of fun and laughs.
Thank you to Molly Parks and Lexi Sleeper for capturing this fun-filled day. Thank you to Christine M. for designing all the graphics for our marketing material.
Special thanks to all the individuals that registered for this event (64 brave people) and raised money to get us through another year! And last but not least, THANK YOU to all the people who donated! We are so humbled by your generosity!!!!
See you in 2015!!!! View the full photo album here.
