ADOPTION PROCESS
SUBMIT AN APPLICATION
Start by submitting an adoption application. We use this to get a general idea of who you are and whether one of our animals will be a good fit for your home. We know the application is lengthy, but we take our adoption and foster placements seriously and the more information we have, the better decision we can make. Complete an application here.
STEP 1
APPLICATION REVIEW
One of our Adoption Coordinators will be assigned to your application. Keep in mind that all of our Adoption Coordinators are volunteers, so this can take a few days. During this step we will reach out to your landlord/HOA and veterinarian (if you have one).
STEP 2
PHONE INTERVIEW
Your Adoption Coordinator will schedule a call with you to review your application and discuss the needs of the animal that you applied for. This is a great chance to get to know you and your preferences to make sure we find the best match. After reviewing your application with you, we'll call your personal references.
STEP 3
HOME VISIT
One of the most important steps is the home visit. We pride ourselves on finding the best fit for both the animal and the human, and the home visit is a very meaningful part of our process. During the home visit, one of our rockstar volunteers will bring the animal you are interested to your home to meet the household and any resident animals. This helps everyone gauge whether or not it will be the right fit.
STEP 4
FINALIZE THE ADOPTION
After the home visit, the ALIVE team will decide whether or not we think this is a match. We ask for the applicant’s decision within 24 hours of the home visit, at which time, if you have been approved to adopt from us, we will schedule a time to finalize the adoption and for you to bring home your new family member!
STEP 5
PLEASE NOTE:
Sometimes this process can take a few weeks. We know you're excited, and we are honored you chose to adopt from ALIVE Rescue. We are a primarily volunteer-based organization (only three paid employees), in addition, we do our due diligence to ensure our adoptables go to the best possible home. Thank you for your patience.
