ALIVE STORIES (DETAILS)

Lucas

Updated: Jan 8, 2021

Intake week: One (4/4/20)

Lucas was one of the first animals we were able to save thanks to our partnership with Paradise 4 Paws, Operation RESCUE-19. Lucas was found as a stray by Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC) as a fearful dog.

Knowing how much ALIVE Rescue loves feral dogs, CACC reached out to us and asked us to help. We made several trips to the shelter to meet Lucas so he could gain our trust. He made significant strides during each visit and we decided he was a good candidate for our program. On April 4th he moved from CACC into Paradise 4 Paws as one of the original Operation RESCUE-19 saves. Lucas was so scared of humans, he peed on himself when we went to remove him from his cage at CACC.

We had Lucas in a quiet area initially while we continued working with him. He eventually gained enough confidence to move to a regular suite near the other dogs. During his second week at P4P he began approaching humans on his own, learned to enjoy the outside world and practiced walking on a leash. He was even taking treats from our hands!

Several weeks after that, Lucas was finally ready to go into a foster home. As of early July, he’s doing so well in his foster home and gets more confident each day. We are so proud of him.
